Behind the Scenes – Osoyoos Surf Hoodie

100% cotton, upcycled towel

The Osoyoos Surf Hoodie as a name got some arguments: It’s more of a beach poncho! There’s no surf here! We’re not from Osoyoos!

Those were all fair arguments that I entirely ignored.

I chose ‘Osoyoos’ because that was the destination of the girls trip. I chose ‘Surf’ because I imagined us taking these to Tofino. And it is in fact a hoodie – a great oversized hoodie, with short to mid-length sleeves, a high-low hem and a heck of a lot of personality.

Maybe the most fun part for me is that each section of fabric has already lived a whole life. Some of this fabric is in its senior years, in fact much older than every single model wearing it. That’s special. It’s wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is a Japanese expression of appreciation for imperfection, transience and the beauty that comes with age, wear and history, almost like patina.

I hope the Osoyoos Surf Hoodies are worn until they are thread-bare. I hope they are stitched, patched, and repatched until they are passed on to the next generation.

Enjoy some behind-the-scenes footage of our photo shoot below. We had so much fun on Day 1 that we took it to Day 2, making memories that will last a lifetime.
